Vogtle Unit 3 Enters Commercial Operation

Georgia Power issued the announcement the morning of Monday, July 31, 2023.

The important and monumental occasion occurred almost four months after syncing to the grid for the first time. Vogtle Unit 3 is the first AP1000 reactor to enter commercial operation in the United States. Unit 4 will be the second when it follows later this year or early next year.

This significant milestone occurred 15 years and 4 months after Southern Nuclear (SNC) first submitted its application for combined licenses to the NRC in March of 2008.
